Learning about Conserving Water

05/22/14 Crestwood Elementary

Third graders at Crestwood have been learning about the importance of water in our world. Students are doing math with our rain barrel as part of their current volume and capacity unit. They are working together to decide what data they want to collect and will begin collecting soon. Let’s hope for rain!

Prairie Garden - third grade

Third graders at Crestwood are planting a burr oak tree for our prairie garden project. We study the prairie in third grade and are excited to have a garden to visit and learn about a variety of prairie plants.

Third Graders Learn about Caring for the World

Third graders have been learning about ways to help the world during their literacy block! They have been reading text cards about organizations and people that help the world. They are learning a lot!

Earth Day Celebration

Crestwood celebrated Earth Day by singing songs and listening to an Arbor Day play. Students also watched Mr. House climb a tree in our woods and put up an owl nest. It was a great day!

Kilowatt Kisses

Third graders in Mrs. Kennedy’s class delivered a different kind of valentine this year - kilowatt kisses. To earn one, teachers and classes around the school had to explain ways they save energy in their classrooms each day. Way to go Crestwood!!!

The student council at Crestwood Elementary is planning to lead a school wide assembly in June. They will be teaching about how to conserve energy at home during the summer!

Schoolwide energy audit

Student council members are taking energy audits in their classrooms to find out how much energy is being used. They hope their classmates will start to think about ways to reduce their energy consumption!

Student Council members become a power patrollers!

A group of student council members at Crestwood are learning about energy use at school and how to do a better job of saving energy! These dedicated kids are patrolling the school, looking for rooms that are energy efficient and helping to teach others to become better at conserving energy. They are spending a few minutes each week in the hallways, hanging posters and checking classrooms. Go power patrol! Keep up the good work.
