Join a club

Learn what’s happening in your school and get connected. Don’t see a green team or energy and environmental club that sparks your interest? Talk to a teacher about starting one yourself.

Challenge a friend

Challenge a friend to help save energy in your school. Hold a competition between your classrooms. Talk to classmates about joining the Power Patrol.

Start simple

Turn off lights whenever you are the last to leave a room, and help your teachers remember to power down computers and monitors at the end of the day. Find a website to calculate your carbon footprint and brainstorm ideas to make that footprint a little smaller.

Stay cool

Are you too hot at school? Too cold? Help stay comfortable by dressing in warmer clothing in the wintertime and cooler clothing in the summer.

Add in an activity

Do you have an idea for a fun way to bring sustainability into your classroom? Talk to your teacher about doing a special eco-activity or check out the Resources tab for ideas.

Buddy up

Find a friend who’s interested in helping to save energy and cut waste in your school. Go on an energy audit of your school together. Chat about how you save energy and encourage one another to do better.

Set a goal

Write down three new actions to save energy that you can do every day. Keep the list somewhere that will remind you to take action.

Get out

Getting outside is good for your mind and body and reduces the amount of time spent using electricity. Join a club or sports team that meets outside, and open your windows whenever the weather is comfortable instead of relying on air conditioning or heating.

Be an advocate

Talk to your principal about why saving energy is important for your school and the planet. Ask how they can help students and staff to get involved. Make a plan to report your successes to school administrators. Write an energy policy and get students and staff to sign a petition to adopt it.
