I was pleasantly surprised when I asked our custodian if he would conduct a tour of the building for my first grade class. "Sure," he said, "We used to do these all the time." So he showed us the boilers, (there are three and one was shut down, so we got to see the inside when it was open), the tunnels, (A crocodile lives there! You could just barely see him, way down a tunnel in the dark.), and the secret door to the roof. We saw the maze of pipes that lead to each classroom and the tangled nest of phone lines. We wrote awesome thank you letters and bound them into a book that we gave to Mike, our amazing custodian.
